20 Brilliant Mind-F*ck Movies

7. Pan€™s Labyrinth

Pan€™s Labyrinth is one of writer-director Guillermo del Toro€™s true masterpieces. Messing with our heads throughout, del Toro weaves between 1994 Francoist Spain and a mythical world of beasts and monsters. Stunning visuals accompany this surreal story, resulting in a fascinating fantasy film.

A young girl called Ofelia (played by Ivana Baquero) is the protagonist, who follows a stick insect she believes to be a fairy from her ordinary life to a beautifully bizarre fantasy realm. Here she meets a wide array of strange creatures and undergoes a series of tasks in an attempt to fulfil her destiny and become immortal.

Pan€™s Labyrinth also boasts one of the most frequent commodities on this list €“ an ending that can be read various ways. And if that doesn€™t freak you out, the Pale Man definitely will.
