20 Characters Most Changed From The Comics In The MCU

There have been some major changes from the source material in the movies.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is arguably the most popular movie franchise in the world today. It has produced some truly brilliant movies with fantastic action, great special effects, clever stories and brilliant characters. Those characters are, of course, based on the Marvel comics that preceded the Marvel Cinematic Universe by seventy years and, while most of them are very much like their comic book counterparts (Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America et al), there are a number of characters who have been changed dramatically from the versions in the original source material. The reasons for these changes vary; some could be considered offensive in modern times, some were just too ridiculous for live action portrayals, some were simply changed for creative reasons (perhaps the writers of the movies they were in just wanting to shake things up and make things less predictable) and various other reasons. Obviously there have been some minor name changes (Natalia Romanova becomes Natasha Romanoff) and changes in the race of certain characters (Heimdall, for example), but bigger changes have also been made, such as the powers of certain characters or the very concepts behind them. In this article, WhatCulture.com takes a look at some of those characters whose portrayals were very different from the comics (not including those who haven't appeared in released films yet, so don't expect to see the likes of Ultron and Vision). On that note, here are the twenty characters most changed from the comics in the Marvel Cinematic Universe...

Honourable Mention: The Inhumans

Viewers of Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. got their first glimpse of the MCU's Inhuman characters in the second season's mid-season finale, as Skye and Raina went through a process of transformation that unleashed their powerful potential. It isn't yet known which super-powered character Raina is going to be, but it has become apparent that Skye is actually that universe's version of Daisy Johnson AKA Quake - a character who isn't an Inhuman at all in the comic books. It would appear, therefore, that the live action Inhumans are going to include a number of characters who aren't actually Inhumans at all in the source material - such as Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver - which could lead to many characters being very different once the Inhumans truly start to make their presence felt. And now on to the actual list...
