20 Coolest Tracking Shots In Movie History
2. Boogie Nights
What can be said about the excellence that is Paul Thomas Anderson which hasn't already been said? Heir apparent to Robert Altman and countless other American masters, his style might have evolved towards more austere direction of late (no less brilliant), but earlier in his career he wasn't afraid to show off.
The opening tracking shot from Boogie Nights is clearly the mark of a director of huge confidence, but there's real substance here. In one shot Anderson succeeds not only in establishing the film's boisterous spirit and retro setting, but also introduces us to all the main characters. It's an awesome shot from one of the best films of the 1990s.
