20 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Transformers Franchise
6. Michael Bay Isn't Really The Problem
Before you get the pitchforks out, hold your horses! Michael Bay is one of the most-maligned directors working in Hollywood today, mocked for his style-over-substance approach to filmmaking, and though few would argue with that, it's also worth considering that Bay has not written any of the Transformers movies (nor any of his movies to date), and is simply working from the asinine scripts he's given. While Bay obviously does have a hand in the creative vision of the franchise and wouldn't work from a script he didn't approve of, he is absolutely a director just waiting for a script that can harness his not-inconsiderable eye for visuals in the right way. His dark comedy Pain and Gain proved what he was capable of with more interesting material, and were Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Ehren Kruger not so keen to actively annoy most grown adults watching the movies, then Bay's films surely wouldn't be so infuriating. Those without much knowledge of how the filmmaking process works will attack Bay first and foremost, and though he is certainly complicit, it's worth singling out the screenwriters just as much for coming up with the ideas in the first place.
