20 Cult British Films You Need To See Before You Die

17. Theatre Of Blood (1973)

Another good fun horror film from 1970s British cinema, Theatre Of Blood is a showcase for Vincent Price as Edward Lionheart - a failed Shakespearian actor who is hammier than a jumbo sized tin of Spam and who is given a total trashing by the critics. In a state of fury, he exacts murderous revenge upon the critics in the style of a different Shakespeare play for each reviewer. Price has ample opportunity to ham it up in Theatre Of Blood. His performances in Shakespeare's plays are a real scream to behold as he emotes with serious melodrama. The killings that Price deals out to the critics are very funny and inventive and Vincent Price obviously enjoys playing with the Bard. Critics often labelled Price as a hammy and camp actor, so he naturally deals out death with much glee, probably empathising with the plight of Edward Lionheart.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
