13. Jubilee (1978)
Set in Britain in a dystopian future, Queen Elizabeth I is transported in time to modern day Britain to see what a sorry state her country is in. Elizabeth II has been killed in a mugging and Britain is over run by anarchic, nihilistic punks with no respect for law and order. Jubilee could be deemed "Punks Behaving Badly" as it throws up all sorts of punk rock luminaries such as Toyah, Adam Ant, Jordan and Nell Campbell. It's certainly a difficult film to categorise - there are not many like it, Jubilee is violent and surreal with graphic scenes of suffocation and the castration of a policeman. This is definitely director Derek Jarman's most striking and important film. With its non linear narrative, 'anything goes' ethos and rostrum of young punk talent, Jubilee is the punk rock film and it captures the movement with considerable skill.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
