20 Easter Eggs You Somehow Missed In Quantum Of Solace

8. A Drive In The Country

In the frantic car chase that opens Quantum of Solace, James Bond's Aston Martin DBS and a group of Alfa Romeo 159 models driven by henchmen in the employ of Quantum are pursued by the Italian police in a Land Rover.

During the chase, one of the Quantum henchmen turns and shoots at the Land Rover, sending it plunging down the side of a marble quarry, which was filmed at Carrara. On its way down, the Land Rover rolls over the road lower down the quarry, barely missing the Aston Martin.

This mirrors a very similar sequence in For Your Eyes Only (1981) in which Roger Moore's Bond and Melina Havelock are sent rolling down the side of a hill near Madrid inside a battered Citroën 2CV, which serves as a sort of crash cage for them, before coming to rest on the road lower down the hill.

Needless to say, Bond and Melina likely fare much better during their "drive in the country" than the Italian police do in Quantum of Solace!

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
