20 Easter Eggs You Somehow Missed In Quantum Of Solace

1. Weaving Between Two Lorries

The car chase between the Lotus Esprit S1 driven by Roger Moore's James Bond and a motorbike, a Mercedes-Benz filled with Jaws and his goons, and a machine gun-toting helicopter piloted by Caroline Munro's seductive yet murderous Naomi is one of the standout sequences in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) - even before it heads underwater.

It starts with the Lotus being trailed by the motorbike, which is equipped with a sidecar that transforms into a missile. When this is fired at the Lotus, Bond performs a daring vehicular manoeuvre, overtaking a large, slow-moving lorry filled with mattresses and ducking in front of it, narrowly missing another oncoming lorry.

Daniel Craig's Double-0 Seven does almost exactly the same in Quantum of Solace. Having lost the driver's side door of his grey Aston Martin DBS, Bond emerges from a tunnel which runs parallel to Italy's Lake Garda, swerving in front of a lorry ahead of him, whilst narrowly missing one that is coming right at him on the other side of the road.

The only real difference this time around is that an Alfa Romeo 159 filled with gun-toting thugs that has been pursuing Bond attempts to do the same, only to crash headlong into the oncoming lorry.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
