Based on Jacques Lobs comic book, which ran from 1984 through 2000, Joon-Hos Snowpiercer is a 125-minute excursion into madcap dystopia, equal parts supercharged sci-fi/action movie, visually insane directors showcase, and star-studded oddity. And its seriously badass. The films setting for the aftermath of the near-destruction of the human race takes an ingenious twist by placing the action on a perpetual motion train, destined to circle the earth following a catastrophic ice age. When the lower class inhabitants of the train rise up against their affluent masters it begins in one of the most epic ways possible. One of the lower class citizens becomes convinced that the soldiers don't even have ammunition in their guns. It's a guess, an educated one, but one that has no proof. And yet so desperate are these people for change that our main protagonist decides that it's worth it and puts one of the guard's gun to his forehead and pulls the trigger to test the theory. Thank goodness he was right.
