20 Essential Movie Moments That Will Define 2015

13. Philippe Petit Walks Across The World Trade Center - The Walk

The Moment: When Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) sets out on his tremendous feat, tight-rope walking between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center for 45 minutes, making an insane eight trips between the two towers, in a feat which caught the imagination of so many, as most memorably recounted in James Marsh's superb 2008 documentary Man on Wire. Why It Will Define 2015: Either for better or for worse, people are likely to remember this film. The real clincher is whether director Robert Zemeckis' 3D will either be a thrilling, vertiginous experiment, or end up feeling like a tacky, cornball exploitation of an event that, in the modern age, absolutely cannot be separated from the specter of 9/11. It just might be one of the best uses of 3D ever, or it might be a cataclysmic failure, but audiences likely won't be forgetting it any time soon either way.
