20 Fails That Nearly Killed The Marvel Film Universe

9. The Hulk Was Almost The Villain In The Avengers

One of the biggest rumours that did the rounds prior to the release of The Avengers was that The Hulk could possibly be the villain of the film, especially considering the post-credit scene at the end of The Incredible Hulk, in which General Ross talked to Tony Stark about the big green dude. In fairness, the rumour still persists nowadays that The Hulk may end up becoming a villain in an Avengers sequel, so we'll just have to wait and see... Why It Would've Ruined The MCU: The Hulk is unstable and unpredictable at the best of times...and that's what makes him so freaking fun to watch. To turn him into a straight-up villain would suck the fun out of him as a character. Have him be chaotic and maybe cause some issues for The Avengers by accident, but to make him a villain, especially considering how charming Mark Ruffalo is in the part of Bruce Banner, would be an epic mistake. Considering how many potential villains Marvel have to draw from, there's really no need to go this route at all.
