20 Fails That Nearly Killed The Marvel Film Universe

6. Josh Harnett & Jim Carrey Almost Played Loki (Thor)

Prior to Tom Hiddleston snagging the part of Loki and completely making it his own, Josh Hartnett had been heavily considered for the part, helped by an enthusiastic fan campaign online. And another often-rumoured actor for the part of Thor's brother? That's right, Jim freaking Carrey. Why It Would've Ruined The MCU: Harnett isn't a bad actor by any means: he's young and he's proven himself witty in a number of movies, but we just don't see him as Loki. Perhaps our perception is coloured by Hiddleston's unforgettable work as the character, but we just can't see Hartnett reeling off those lines with as much brilliant venom as Hiddleston. Considering how big a part of the MCU Loki is, his casting was vital, and Hartnett, who by his own admission hates the Hollywood blockbuster game, could very well have become bored with being boxed-in like this. Carrey, on the other hand, is a much easier suggestion to just laugh off. For starters, he's almost 20 years older than Chris Hemsworth and would've been almost 50 by the time filming began, and again, we just don't see him managing to live up to what Hiddleston brought to the character. Not at all.
