20 Famous Movie Tattoos (And What They Actually Mean)
7. Snatch (2000)
Role: Brad Pitt as Micky O'Neil
The eccentric Irish bare-knuckle boxer Mickey O'Neil is such a divisive character in Snatch thanks to being covered in (mostly) scratchy tattoos, which give some insight into his wacky character and the impoverished life which has caused him to be so tough.
You would expect a brawler capable of hospitalising a man twice his size to be sporting some of the tribal designs weve seen frequently on this list, perhaps with some barbed-wire thrown in for good measure. Instead, Brad Pitts outlandish pikey choses to show his softer side with his tattoos, sporting an intricate floral design on his stomach as well as a matching pair of top-hat-wearing cats on his rotary cuffs.
O'Neil also has several religiously symbolic tattoos, denoting the importance of Christian belief to the Irish most memorably is that terribly executed Virgin Mary on his chest (presumably intended to look homemade) and an inked rendition of the last supper on his back. Suffice to say, its not quite Da Vinci. O'Neil's combination of feminine and religious themed body-art seems incongruous with his incredibly tough persona. However, it would be a grave mistake to treat the Irishman as a pushover.
The scatty nature of his tattoos is in keeping with his off-the-wall personality but he shows himself to also be uncompromising and ruthless when he and his family are wronged by crime boss Brick Top.
