20 Fantastic Blimps, Balloons, And Dirigibles In Movies

19. The Chipmunk Adventure (1987)

Up (animated film)
The Samuel Goldwyn Company

Long before the live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks film arrived in theaters, this animated film brought the characters to the big screen for a globe-trotting adventure. While the film doesn’t answer the burning question of why a grown man is foster parent to three enormous talking chipmunks in human clothes, it does have an around-the-world balloon race contest that is a front for a diamond-smuggling ring.

What else does this movie have? Glad you asked. There’s an orphan penguin, a rock and roll contest in a temple in Athens, a mildly racist version of “Wooly Bully” performed for some natives in a jungle, and voice-over narration from Carol Burnett. What more could you want?

Chris Vander Kaay knows the hidden secrets of the world, but he frequently forgets them. He has them written on a piece of paper along with his passwords, but he seems to have misplaced that as well.
