16. Warcraft
Release Date: 10th June (US) - 3rd June (UK) Director: Duncan Jones Starring: Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Travis Fimmel, Dominic Cooper Could 2016 finally be the year when audiences gain quality video-game adaptations? It certainly looks like it could be. Based upon Blizzard Entertainment's multi-million dollar MMORPG empire, Source Code auteur Jones takes fans deep into the vast kingdoms of Azeroth for an action-packed IMAX extravaganza. Originally slated for a much earlier arrival, the film entered an expansive 123-day shoot to ensure the huge world of the game and its inhabitants were justly projected. Aided by a fantastic cast with the likes of Foster (next seen as Lance Armstrong in The Program), Patton, Fimmel, Cooper and Toby Kebbel, plus a visionary director whose previous offerings have widely impressed, Warcraft looks set to be both pleasing to hardcore devotees of the game and the casual viewer; the perfect happy-medium. Even better was that Blizzard outright REFUSED to sell the film's rights to Uwe Boll when he enquired, claiming he could destroy the company's growth and income with a bad movie. Brilliant.
