Battleship Potemkin is potentially the most influential film in history and whatever your favourite film is, it's likely it wouldn't be the same without the influence of Potemkin.
A technical masterpiece in every possible way, Potemkin is virtually perfect cinema. Its cinematography and editing are completely exceptional, especially during the masterful Odessa Steps sequence, and while it is a silent film, all those amazing visuals convey more story than 20 pages of screenplay ever could.
Don't be put off by this being a Soviet propaganda film; this is not only an important film but it's an incredibly entertaining and suspenseful one too and an absolutely cracking viewing. If you're a film student or aspiring film-maker, your film education is not complete until you've seen this movie.
