20 Great Films That Went Under The Radar In 2012

1. Holy Motors

Holy Motors Leo Carax says that he makes films for the dead and shows it to the living and that is probably as much as we will get to an explanation of what he was doing exactly in "Holy Motors.: To explain this film is to give it injustice as it goes off into wild places that are unpredictable. From what I gather it is an ode to cinema: the actors, the style and the genres. There are multiple references to multiple films from "Eyes Without a Face," to musicals, and even to Pixar's animation "Cars." The break out performer is lead Denis Lavant, who plays a myriad of characters, each more different than the last and he is barely recognizable in each one of them. Most importantly, there are accordions (proven here to be a great rock and roll instrument). I will not explain how or why that is pertinent to the story but - if this film plays anywhere near you - I implore you to see it on the big screen. It is truly an experience that only cinema can offer out. Agree or disagree with these choices? Let us know in the comments section below.
