20 Great Movie Franchises That Became Unwatchable
12. Halloween
Here, you can feel free to file Michael Myers next to Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, and Jason Voorhees under "Oversaturated Horror Villains".
Michael's first outing was legendary, and like with the other slasher entries on this list, is the reason the franchise keeps getting revisited. Also, in a similar way to Terminator, the Halloween series has seen a ridiculous amount of different timelines within its 13 movies. There are mini-trilogies in there, films that ignore the canon of others, detours away from Myers himself, and even Jamie Lee Curtis going out of her way to ask for Laurie Strode to be killed.
Surely this is a sign that things aren't going so well. The beloved character and the legendary actor had both reached their limit, although it must be said that this has been far more of a rollercoaster ride than many of the others on this list.
The vast majority of these series have started high and gradually declined over time, sometimes more drastically than others. However, Halloween saw something of a renaissance in 2018 with... Halloween. It didn't last long, of course, as the new trilogy soon outstayed its welcome and the subsequent two entries fell just as flat as those from before.
