20 Great Movies That Were Accused Of Being Rip-Offs
2. Inception (2011)
Christopher Nolan's "intelligent movie for stupid people" (at least, according to writer Will Self) is built around the concept of dream layers, in which ideas can be implanted or stolen from human beings; the technology exists to allow people to infiltrate the dreams of others to pull of extensive heists. That doesn't sound like the sort of thing that would also happen in a Scrooge McDuck comic book, does it? Looking back at an old issue called "The Dream of a Lifetime," it's clear that what had occurred in Inception had already happened to a top-hat wearing bird... How Much Of A Rip-Off Are We Talking Here? According to himself, the whole "dream stealer" concept inherent to Inception was thought up by Christopher Nolan years and years before Inception actually got made, back when he was at University and was into The Matrix (which it could also probably be argued the movie rips-off elements from, but hey). In 2002, though, a Disney comic book starring Scrooge and Donald Duck emerged - one that basically clings to Inception's entire plot about infiltrating dreams to steal a combination, complete with elements such as "totems" and using "kicks" to wake people up; the comic also has its own "limbo," and characters can "think up" objects, such as guns. Overall Rip-Off Rating: 4/5
