20 Great Movies Since 2000 That You Forgot Existed

9. Margin Call (2011)

J.C. Chandor's third picture, A Most Violent Year, has just been released into theatres and is earning rave reviews for its depiction of capitalism in '80s New York and a tour de force performance from up and coming actor Oscar Issac. But Chandor, the son of a Wall Street banker, has dealt in such territories before - albeit with a somewhat different approach. Margin Call, then, which found its way into cinemas back in 2011 but still remains relatively unknown to mainstream audiences, gets its claws into the unmistakable mess that was the 2007-2008 financial crisis. It's a smart, elegant and totally relevant movie, featuring brilliant performances from the likes of Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Paul Bettany and Stanley Tucci. If the title doesn't sell it to you, give the movie ten minutes to convince you of its worth: you'll be hooked.
