20 Greatest Dance Scenes In Movie History
7. I Got Rhythm - An American In Paris (1951)
An American in Paris is an example of musical art. With the splendour of balletic choreography across the movie, the use of colour blending and the timeless orchestration, it’s no wonder the film swept the Oscars for several of the artistic awards, including Best Art Direction and Best Costume. There’s some debate over whether it should have won Best Picture, but if nothing else, the movie is a sample of creative genius.
As this is a Gene Kelly movie, there are so many gorgeous dance sequences to choose from. But the I Got Rhythm sequence is perhaps the best.
It’s more simplistic than the final epic ballet sequence but what makes it so great is that it’s purely the best of Gene Kelly – entertaining everyone around him like in real life, being expressive as possible and making some complex choreography look easy in the romantic setting of Paris, it's just a sample of what made him such an icon in musical cinema.
