20 Greatest Direct Sequels Ever Made
10. Lethal Weapon 2
Before it became a watered-down shell of its former self in the final two installments, the Lethal Weapon franchise was seen by many to be the pinnacle of the 'Golden Age' of the buddy movie, and the first sequel is cited by Richard Donner, Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and countless fans as the best entry in the series.
Although it features plenty of memorable set-pieces, with the bomb under the toilet and the stilt house being particular highlights, what really powers the movie is the dynamic between Gibson and Glover as mismatched partners Riggs and Murtaugh.
Building on the rapport established in the first movie, the pair have incredible chemistry together, playing off each other beautifully as they trade one-liners against a backdrop of bullets and car chases, with the sequel's increased focus on comedy ultimately enhancing the final product as opposed to weakening it.
