12. Peter Weller as RoboCop in RoboCop
What can you say about a cyborg that lets his gun do all of the talking? Not much if you dont want to miss all of the action in RoboCop. This is one of those movies that really epitomizes what the 80s were all about; violence, guns, drugs and big explosions. You really get your fill of decadence from this movie while enjoying some good ol fashion violent fun. Peter Weller stars as Officer Alex Murphy who is killed while on duty only to be rebuilt as RoboCop and become nothing short of a one man wrecking machine destined to clean up Detroit. The make-up designed to turn Peter in to RoboCop was originated by Rob Bottin. He did an amazing job creating the cyborg design and overall look of RoboCop. Leaving intact Peter Murphys face with a cyborg body made of metal and wires helps give a sense of recognition of who Murphy used to be. The helmet and body resembles that of a streamline sports car stocked with automatic weapons just itching for their triggers to be pulled. Peter also gives a robotic yet charismatic performance when delivering his lines in the movie that captures the stoic presence of RoboCop. Not many movies about robots or cyborgs have really captured the essence of RoboCop since then and with a reboot in the works for this movie, lets hope they can do it again. 11. The Cast of Planet of the Apes
The younger generation of today probably wont remember the 1968 version of Planet of the Apes. It starred Charlton Heston as an astronaut crash landing on what he believes is another planet. He tries to escape the planet in order to get back to his own, only realizing that he was on his own planet the whole time. The make up for the primates were really believable in having their own personalities rather than being rubber masks that didnt move at all. The actors were able to move their mouths and eyes freely thus giving them range to show different emotions when needed for a specific scene. Each of the primate make-ups were so different from each other that you can actually tell them apart and identify them with each actors voice which helped them form their own individualities as primates. The make-up design for the apes were created by make-up artist John Chambers. He had perfected techniques he learned during the war and with the help of many other make-up artists, created ingenious make-up conceptions in the form of primate masks. The make-up he created was so good that John won an honorary Oscar for the work he did on the movie. Many sequels were made after the first movie , but none of them gave us something as groundbreaking as what John did with make-up in this movie.
