20 Greatest Moments In The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy

6. Gollum€™s Fall

gollum Really this covers everything that happens inside Mount Doom, which is simply an exhilarating, gut-twisting sequence of dramatic climaxes. Each of the players gets a facial expression that perfectly depicts the extreme emotions swirling inside the fiery chamber. There€™s Frodo€™s utterly alien look of dark authority as the Ring€™s power finally claims him, answered by Sam€™s expression of exhausted, despairing realisation. But even these powerful acting beats are outclassed by the sheer lunatic joy on Gollum€™s face when he FINALLY regains the Ring€for about fifteen seconds. It€™s hard not to feel a twinge of satisfaction for the murderous creep, as the last moments of his miserable life are spent in a state of transcendent bliss, before Frodo tackles him off the brink, sending him plunging to his doom, cooing with happiness all the way down.

5. The Fall of Sauron

sausron It isn€™t the swelling music as the score reaches a triumphant, cathartic peak, or the thunderous special effects as Barad Dur collapses into oblivion and the plains of Mordor crumble, swallowing thousands of panicking Orcs. It€™s the reaction shot of teary-eyed joy and relief on Gandalf€™s face, as he sees all his labours vindicated and his faith in Frodo finally proved justified. Gandalf and Merry€™s looks of wonder quickly shift to fear and dread as Mount Doom starts to erupt, making the fate of Frodo and Sam uncertain for the final time before their eventual rescue.
