20 Greatest Movie Psychos Of All Time

18. Idi Amin - The Last King of Scotland (2006)

Last King Of Scotland 300,000 Ugandans died at the hands of Idi Admin's administration. This film (through viewing the despot from the eyes of a young Scottish doctor who was drawn into Amin's inner circle) shows us some insight into the monstrous psycho that Amin was. Dr James Garrigan has an inkling things are not good in Uganda when he notices an increase in violence in the towns but he accepts Amin's explanation that he has to cut down insurgents for the good of the country. However, Amin cannot cut down on his paranoia, executions and racism (Asians are expelled from the country due to Amin's xenophobia). Garrigan gets beaten by his henchmen but makes it out of Uganda by the skin of his teeth. Amin was absolutely bonkers. His regime was described as "racist, erratic and unpredictable, brutal, inept and bellicose, irrational, ridiculous and militaristic" in 1972 by US Ambassador Thomas Patrick Melady. Forrest Whitaker gives an excellent portrayal of the psycho dictator whose antics were simultaneously whimsical and murderous. From what I remember from my studies of Idi Amin, he once tried to hoodwink the President of Tanzania into thinking he wasn't going to invade his country by sending him a telegram that said "I love you so much, if you were a woman I would marry you". Psycho and a chancey fool!
