"There's a hundred-thousand streets in this city. You don't need to know the route. You give me a time and a place, I give you a five minute window. Anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours. No matter what. Anything happens a minute either side of that and you're on your own. Do you understand?" Throughout pretty much all of Drive, the Driver is a remarkably enigmatic character. We don't even know his name, he's always just called either "Kid" or "Driver". So it's interesting to note that when it comes to his identity, this first statement lets us know more than anything else in the movie. He's a pragmatic individual, willing to take the risks involved in this line of work but remaining rigidly devoted to his own personal set of rules.
