The Star Wars saga isn't short on memorable opening sequences, with The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and The Last Jedi all boasting stylistic and absorbing introductions. All that said, it would still be ridiculously difficult to top the series' original intro.

The first few minutes to 1977's Star Wars has everything. There's the famous shot of the Tantive IV being relentlessly chased by the Star Destroyer, the rebels bracing themselves for an Imperial boarding party, and of course, Darth Vader's emphatic entrance.

It's suspenseful, bedazzling and scary all at once, and in laying the foundations for the most famous sci-fi franchise of all, it's also pretty darn important.
