20 Greatest Revenge Movies Of All-Time
14. Dead Man's Shoes
Easily one of the greatest revenge films to have hailed from British shores, Shane Meadow's immensely depressing kitchen sink drama-like tale of an ex-soldier's mission to seek retribution on those who wronged his disabled brother is impossible to look away from.
The aesthetics inherent to Dead Man's Shoes are raw, the supporting actors perfect in their ordinariness, the soundtrack perfectly judged. But it's the performance courtesy of lead actor Paddy Considine that really makes the movie what it is; as Richard, he is a tour-de-force of vengeance - a man entirely consumed by his desire to deliver what is owed to those who have wronged his family.
It's one of the greatest performances to have hit the screen in the last decade or so - Oscar-worthy in every sense (if the Oscars considered movies like Dead Man's Shoes); the kind that rivets you to your seat; nightmarish, haunting and striking - just like this brilliant, underrated film.
