20 Greatest Sci-Fi Films Of The 21st Century

4. Minority Report

Minority Report Steven Spielberg's vastly underrated sci-fi film is not only one of the best movies of Spielberg's latter filmography, it's arguably the best action/thriller/sci-fi combination of the 2000's. Set in a future Washington D.C where murders are stopped before they happen by a specialized police force, Minority Report deals with themes including predestination vs. free will, the role of media and government in a futuristic society, and self-perception. Not only that, but it is an immensely entertaining movie that benefits from Spielberg's incredible ability to blend aspects of film noir, mystery, and crime thriller into a prescient vision of a future society. While the merits of the ending are up for debate, the entire production is nearly flawless, with Tom Cruise giving one of his best performances, Spielberg showing yet again he might be the most technically proficient director of all-time, delivering a movie awash in interesting ideas and concepts. It's a reminder that no one does sci-fi better than Spielberg, and hopefully he'll return once more to the genre in the near future and give us more movies like Minority Report.

I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
