20 Greatest Sidekicks In Film History

12. Ned Seton - Holiday

In the film Holiday, Johnny Case and Julia Seton make the rather foolhardy decision to become engaged after only knowing each other briefly while on vacation. It doesn't take very long for the bloom to go off the rose, so to speak, and Johnny finds a kindred spirit in Julia's sister Linda. And while that's all well and good, it totally overlooks the best character in the film, the third Seton child and Linda's co-conspirator, Ned. He's such an endearing little screw-up, one of those sweet-tempered, loving people who still somehow manages to be a disappointment to his parents. Yeah, he's got a serious alcohol problem, but he always has tremendously witty one-liners, and the man was born to enter and leave rooms in the most dramatic way possible. His devotion to Linda is clear throughout the film, and it gives her the strength to run after Johnny against her father's wishes, but the tragic irony is that he is still unable to stand up to his severe father, and instead lingers in alcoholic depression of which there is seemingly no escape.
