Star Wars saga. From humble beginnings in 1977 to the multi-million dollar franchise status it now enjoys, it is I think quite fair to say that
Star Wars has become a bona fide global phenomenon unprecedented in the history of cinema. It helped usher in the dawn of the blockbuster, and was the progenitor of the summer popcorn flicks that appeal mainly to young audiences; the cinema of mass consumption. The
Star Wars Empire (pun intended) now spans films, books, comics, games, toys, cartoons, t-shirts, and any other form of merchandising imaginable. It stands to reason, then, that key phrases from the films have become part of the pop culture lexicon; indeed, a lot of the dialogue is infinitely quotable (the arguably dubious quality of the dialogue itself makes for another discussion entirely, though of course I have my definite views on the subject).
