20 Hidden Drama Movie Gems You Can Watch On Netflix
2. Miller's Crossing
The first film after their debut, Blood Simple, to truly show off the Coen Bros' dramatic chops, Miller's Crossing is a meticulous mood-picture, part noir, part gangster, and wholly unforgettable. Everything about this tale of Tom Reagan (Gabriel Byrne) and his split loyalties between warring Prohibition-era mob bosses is controlled to perfection, and you get the sense that everything in the frame, even down to the most minute detail, has been put there for a reason. With a stellar cast that includes Albert Finney, John Turturro (who gets to add his own classic line to film lexicon with his pleading "look into your heart!"), and Marcia Gay Harden, Miller's Crossing is the Coens' first true masterpiece, every bit as good as the film widely considered to be their actual first, Fargo.
