20 Highest-Grossing Movie Franchises Ranked Worst To Best

15. Jurassic Park

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back Darth Vader
Universal

Worldwide box office: $5 billion.

Though it might seem a low ranking for such an iconic and influential franchise, the truth is that the Jurassic Park series only has one really great instalment, followed by a handful of decent-to-awful sequels that often watch like nothing more than cheap cash-grabs.

The first film, released back in 1993 and directed the irreplaceable Steven Spielberg, came out to well-deserved rave reviews and was - fun fact - the first film to ever make over $1 billion at the box office.

The second film mostly overcomes its shortcomings but fails to live up to the potential of its predecessor, whilst the third instalment and recent Jurassic World sequel trilogy have been okay-fun in parts, but have pushed their simple premise too far to be in any way worthy successors to the original classic.

That being said, between the first film's lasting cultural impact, as well as the staggering practical effects and iconic characters, it's far from an out-and-out failure, and even in its worst moments makes for an acceptable Saturday night movie experience.
