6. The Martian

It's impressive how a film review can be both completely convincing and utterly unconvincing at the same time. Five stars is a big positive, but surely there's a more impressive measure of achievement than being the best Ridley Scott film since American Gangster? The six he made after that were all pretty much garbage, and The Martian is a triumph. And kudos also for distilling the film down to four elements that apparently sounded interesting in your head, but which to the uninitiated sound like an animation from one of the lesser studios about comedy dancing potatoes.
