20 Idiotic Decisions Made By Characters In The Harry Potter Films

18. Dumbledore€™s Hiring Of The Pompous Gilderoy Lockhart

Gilderoy Lockhart is a pompous windbag. He writes bestselling books for the wizarding world, all of which are adorned with his smiling photo. He luxuriates in the spotlight, seeking it whenever he can. He has legions of fans who write to him, and he joyfully responds in kind. Why then, did Albus Dumbledore hire him as Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher? Lockhart€™s €œexpertise€ in fighting the Dark Arts is documented in his books, but his appointment should have been put on hold once he submitted his book list, which included his complete collection of published works. Sounds a tad too opportunist. If that wasn€™t enough, his ineptitude as a teacher, exemplified by his first disastrous lesson in which he releases a swarm of pixies into the classroom and then can€™t control them, should have been enough for his suspension. There may have been a lack of applicants for the DADA position, but surely Dumbledore could come down from his tower and substitute?
