20 Incredible Film Performances That Didn't Get The Credit They Deserved
14. Sacha Baron Cohen - Borat (2006)
Improvisational, hilarious, provocative and often downright dangerous; it wouldn't be hyperbolic to state that Sacha Baron Cohen's insanely dedicated turn as Kazakh journalist Borat Sagdiyev is one of the greatest comedy performances in history. The scripted scenes are the weakest parts of the movie, but Baron Cohen's ability to stay in character during the sketches is nothing short of incredible. More than just a laugh-out-loud comedy, Borat also serves as a sociological satire and a study of American tolerance, or lack thereof. Using his character's perceived innocence to his advantage, Baron Cohen extracts some eye-opening responses from the mockumentary's numerous subjects. Reportedly, the police were called almost 100 times during the production due to his antics, which sums it up really. Although he won a Golden Globe for his efforts, Baron Cohen's turn is largely overlooked as an acting performance, even though his fearless turn is one of the best in recent memory.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
