As Ronan's (Lee Pace) ship the Dark Aster plummets towards Xandar, Groot creates a forest cocoon around the Guardians, with Rocket (Bradley Cooper) protesting that he can't do it, because he'll die, asking him why he's doing it. Groot expands his vocabulary every so slightly to say "We are Groot", at once declaring that he is no longer just an individual and feels part of something, and also from the emotion of the words, presumably saying, "Everything will be OK". He then wipes a tear from Rocket's face as the Aster crashes and, thankfully, everyone is OK, except for Groot, who is of course reborn at the end of the movie. Given how risky this entire movie was, to make audiences fall in love with a giant tree monster was no easy feat, but thanks to Vin Diesel's performance and the gorgeous visual effects, Groot became one of 2014's most beloved characters.
