8. "9/11 Was A Tragedy..." - The Big Sick

After his ex-girlfriend Emily develops a lung infection and is placed in a medically-induced coma, protagonist Kumail heads to the hospital where he finds himself butting heads with Emily's stressed-out parents, Terry and Beth.

During one incredibly awkward meal, Terry asks Kumail what he thinks about 9/11 with a sure tone of middle-class racism, prompting Kumail to fire back, "What's my stance on 9/11? Oh um, anti. It was a tragedy, I mean we lost 19 of our best guys."

After seeing Beth's shocked response, Kumail tries to smooth things over, but only make things even more awkward as he insists that 9/11 shouldn't be joked about.

For a film that's all about the tragi-comic nature of culture clashes, this one-liner was terrifically ferocious.
