20 James Bond References You Might Have Missed In Die Another Day
12. Do You Still Sleep With The Gun Under Your Pillow?
Tomorrow Never Dies, like Die Another Day, may have relied a lot upon technology, overshadowing Pierce Brosnan's James Bond to some extent, but the audience still learns about Double-0 Seven through Paris Carver (Teri Hatcher), a former flame of his who unfortunately married that film's lead villain, Elliot Carver.
During a party that Carver is hosting at his headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, Paris makes the fatal error of asking Bond if he still sleeps with his gun under his pillow - an exchange that is recorded by Carver's technical expert, Henry Gupta (Ricky Jay), thus proving that Paris knew James beforehand and sealing her fate.
In Die Another Day, whilst he is maintaining the charade of being lovers with Miranda Frost, Brosnan's Double-0 Seven slips his Walther P99 underneath a pillow on his outlandish bed inside Gustav Graves's ice palace - the habit of a lifetime. The next morning, Miranda hands him his gun as he sets out to discover Graves's secrets, but she is ultimately revealed to be the person who betrayed him in North Korea. Bond tries to shoot Frost, only to hear the dull sound of a bent firing pin.
"It was so good of you to bring your gun to bed with us," Miranda taunts him, revealing that she used her own charms and sleight of hand to disable his weapon.
