Designers know that people like to wear popular images, and the Minions have a sort of pleasing, abstract aesthetic that lends itself to clothing design.
This is as good an explanation as to why designers from Rupert Sanderson to Giles Deacon are collaborating with the filmmakers on T-shirts, high-heeled shoes, sleeveless tops, hairnets, necklaces, bracelets, jean shirts, sweatshirts, sweat pants, winter caps, derbies, baseball caps and hard hats. Many of the clothes have a 1960s vibe, a nod to the setting of the latest film. Sandra Bullock even wore Minion heels to the premiere.
There's even an official Pantone shade named Minion Yellow. Sadly, the individual dress styles of Felonius Gru, Lucy Wilde and Scarlet Overkill have yet to inspire public demand.
