11. Godzilla's Roar
Godzillas roar is one of the most iconic sounds in cinematic history. So integral is it to the character that it could easily be argued that he wouldnt have had the impact he did without it. The story behind the roar is an inspiring one. After attempts to create the roar from animals sounds proved lacking, musical composer Akira Ifukube suggested approaching it from a musical perspective. Experimentation eventually let to the idea of coating a rubber glove with pine tar resin and rubbing it over a bass violin string. The resulting sound was so striking that it became the genesis for Godzillas now trademark roar. It just goes to show you that genius can come from the unlikeliest of places.
