20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Godzilla
9. Godzilla Appeared In Ultraman (Sort Of)
The kaiju boom of the 60s gave rise many new franchises in Japan, and one of the most popular was Ultraman. Created by Eiji Tsuburaya, the special effect maestro behind the Godzilla films, it pitted its hero against various monsters throughout its original run and the many sequels beyond. Its small budget often forced the production to reuse costumes of older monsters, a fact they attempted to hide by adding new parts and spray painting them different colors. Godzilla himself was even reused at one point to portray the frilled-lizard monster Jirass. The monster even retained Godzillas roar and atomic breath, though both were modified slightly to distance itself from the fact that it was just Godzilla with a massive frill around his neck. Other monsters from the Godzilla series would be reused for Ultraman, including Gigan and Baragon.
