Godzilla is a character rooted in Japanese pride and history, and has remained powerful and relevant for so long that he has become more than just a monster. He has become an integral part of Japans identity. Recognizing this, Japan did something really cool: they made Godzilla an official citizen of the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo, Japan. He was also named the tourism ambassador for the district, whose job is promoting the entertainment of and watching over the Kabuki-cho neighborhood and drawing visitors from around the globe. In a way, Godzilla has become a mascot of Japan; a character that represents their nation to the rest of the world. Its great to see him honored in such a fun and unique fashion.
