Today sees the 30th anniversary of the release of the single greatest ensemble ghost comedy movie, as well as this month marking the 25th anniversary of its impressively not terrible sequel, so its important to recognise the part the film has played in cinema history. Although 30 years is a long time in Hollywood, the films remain as popular now as they ever have, thanks to eminently quotable scripts, brilliant casting and irresistibly story lines that include some iconic set-pieces. And naturally, having the greatest movie theme tune of all time helps a lot. Of course, for some, the single biggest mistake in the history of the genre was not releasing a third film before the death of Harold Ramis - which we can possibly pin on the studio for not finding the right script and Bill Murray for resisting, but there are also a number of glaring plot-holes and errors that distract somewhat from the films quality. But then, both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II remain exceptional experiences even now, and it is testament to that importance and success that the following problems have never stood in the way of the fans adoration.
