6. Hillbilly Elegy

The Devil All the Time Tom Holland
Sony Pictures Classics

Release Date: TBA November

Adapted from J. D. Vance's 2016 memoir Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis, this prestige drama stars Glenn Close, Amy Adams, and Haley Bennett as three generational members of an Appalachian family fighting to achieve the American Dream.

Much of the movie's pre-release buzz has been centered on an apparently transformative performance by Glenn Close, who is likely to land her eighth Oscar nomination as a result, and fingers are crossed that this might finally net her the damn gong outright.

The film is also directed by two-time Oscar winner Ron Howard and written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Vanessa Taylor (The Shape of Water), so Close has a ton working in her favour here.
