I doubt even the most die-hard J-horror aficionados saw this one coming. Yes, just as the US version of The Ring spawns a new movie, the original Japanese series decides to go one better by making a crossover movie with The Grudge, bringing those white-faced, black-haired, googly-eyed terrors face-to-face.

If it sounds like a joke, that's no accident: originally the project was nothing more than an April Fool's joke, but when fans expressed interest, it became very real. And just to add a hint of controversy, it's from director Kôji Shiraishi, whose notorious 2009 torture movie Grotesque was banned in the UK.
