For two brutal rapes and the graphic portrayal of violence, Sam Peckinpah's Straw Dogs was banned from 1984 until 2002 in the UK. Seemingly tame by today's standards, at the time of release, the hardest part to stomach was the scene in which Susan George is raped by a group of workmen who have break into her and Dustin Hoffman's abode. The BBFC saw the film and didn't agree with the way the rape was filmed and cut, focusing on her face, rather than her body, they felt as though Georges portrayal was one that evoked that a feeling that she was enjoying being raped. The film was re-cut again and finally released as an 'uncut' version in 2002 by the BBFC. The scene may have lost its shock value today, but it still looks strange with George's performance leaving an odd feeling with the audience.
