20 Most Controversial Scenes In Cinema History

9. Requiem for a Dream (2000)

req Never has a film so harrowingly portrayed the ruination of people's dreams and their descent into helpless drug addiction. Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn) gets a letter telling her she is to appear on television. She gets addicted to diet pills in the quest to fit into her nice red dress. Drifting into amphetamine psychosis, her fate is tragic and unbelievably harrowing. Her son Harry (Jared Leto) is a hopeless heroin addict who cannot provide the goods for his equally addicted girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connolly). It is this inability to provide her with heroin that triggers the most controversial scene in the movie where Marion appears in a live sex show before a crowd of roaring men doing ass to ass dildo work with another woman. Heroin will bring you that low. Not comfortable viewing all round.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
