20 Most Critically Adored Films 2018 (According To Rotten Tomatoes)

3. Summer 1993

Spider Man Paddington
Avalon

Rating: 100%

It might have particularly weighty subject matter - following a six-year-old orphan who goes to live with her uncle after her parents die of AIDS - but Summer 1993 is a must-see.

Thanks to its incredible performances and the personal notes film-maker Carla Simon drops in there, it's a refreshing, authentic tale from the perspective of a very young child. That's not easy to make.

Sample Review:

"Refreshingly, Simón's take on the "summer that changed everything" movie is delicate and unsentimental, earning an emotional response simply by exploring how a child interprets loss from the child's perspective and at the child's pace." - Chicago Reader
