16. The Electric State

After the Russo brothers followed up Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame with back-to-back duds in Cherry and The Gray Man, there was considerable hope that they'd bounce back with sci-fi adventure film The Electric State.

After all, it was based on an acclaimed novel by Simon StÃ¥lenhag and touted one hell of a buzzy ensemble cast, led by Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.

And with a stonking $320 million budget on top, it seemingly had everything it needed to realise the stunning vision of the source material on-screen.

But The Electric State marks the third straight miss for the Russos, for while the VFX work is generally staggering throughout, the actual soul of the story and characters is severely lacking.

The loose approach to adapting StÃ¥lenhag's novel didn't help, resulting in a film that lacks its vibrant emotional core and leaves the cast merely going through the tired motions. What a waste of so many resources this was.
